Nicholasville, KY – The four semifinalists are now set at the 2024 ITA Division III Women’s National Team Indoor Championship, as another exciting weekend of play has kicked off today from the Top Seed Tennis Club for what will be the final indoor championship of the season.

Across the morning matches, it was CMS (1) and Johns Hopkins (5) who each clinched their spots into tomorrow’s semifinals as both handled business against two very tough opponents in the opening round of matches.

In the first match of the day to wrap up, CMS took down Carnegie Mellon (8) 6-1 as they look to lay claim to the ITA National Team Indoor Title after having won the NCAA Team Title each of the past two seasons. After sweeping all three doubles courts, the Athenas would earn wins on courts no. 2 through no. 6 in singles to close out the match.

On the opposite bank of courts, it was Johns Hopkins who held off a strong push from Emory (4) late to defeat the Eagles 4-3 and advance to the semifinals. After taking the doubles point with wins on courts no. 2 and no. 3, Hopkins would add to their total with straight-set singles wins on courts no. 2 and no. 5 before clinching the match on court. 3 with a third-set win.

Moving on to the afternoon, the higher seeds made their presence felt as UChicago (2) took down Sewanee (7) 6-1 while Pomona Pitzer (3) defeated MIT (6) 6-1 as well. Each will join CMS and Johns Hopkins tomorrow in the Semifinals, and for UChicago, they keep their hopes for a three-peat alive.

For UChicago, they had to battle in doubles, needing wins on courts no. 2 and no. 3 to take the lone singles point. However, in singles, the Maroons found their rhythm and showcased why they are one of the top teams in the country, winning on courts no. 1, no. 2, no. 4, no. 5, and no. 6 to head to yet another semifinal match at the Indoor Championships.

Finishing just moments behind them, Pomona Pitzer followed a similar path to victory as UChicago, winning the doubles point before closing out the match in singles play. For the Sagehens, they relied on wins from the no. 1, no. 2, no. 3, no. 4, and no. 6 positions in singles and will now look forward to a match with UChicago tomorrow that promises to excite.

The semifinals will be played tomorrow from the Top Seed Tennis Club with the consolation matches beginning at 9 am (EST) and the semifinals starting at 2 pm (EST).
