Each year the ITA recognizes All-America honors by the following selection criteria:

NCAA Division I (Revised August 2024)

The criteria for earning ITA All-America Singles honors includes:

  • ITA All-American Singles Champion
  • Advancing to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championships (November)
  • Finishing in the Top 20 of the Final ITA Singles Rankings (May)

The criteria for earning ITA All-America Doubles honors includes:

  • ITA All-American Doubles Champion
  • Advancing to the Quarterfinals at the NCAA Doubles Championships (November)
  • Finishing in the Top 10 of the Final ITA Doubles Rankings (May)

NCAA Division II

The criteria for ITA All-America honors include finishing the season in the top 20 of the ITA singles rankings and top 10 in the final ITA doubles rankings.

NCAA Division III

The selection criteria for Division III All-Americans is the following: top 8 seed in the NCAA singles tournament, win one round at the NCAA singles tournament, finish in the Top 20 in the final ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, win ITA Fall Regional Tournament, or win a first-round match at the ITA National Small College Championships (ITA Cup). All-American honors are awarded to doubles teams that are a top 4 seed in NCAA doubles tournament, win one round at the NCAA doubles tournament, finish in the Top 10 in the final ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, win the ITA Fall Regional Tournament, or win a first-round match at the ITA National Small College Championships.

NAIA

The criteria for All-American recognition are finishing in the top 20 of the final ITA national rankings for singles and top 10 of the final ITA national doubles rankings.

Junior College

The criteria for All-American recognition are finishing in the top 10 of the final ITA national rankings for singles and top five doubles teams for each association.

Wheelchair

The criteria for ITA All-American recognition is reaching the semifinals of the Flight A Singles Draw at the ITA National Wheelchair Tennis Championships.

Legacy

The ITA Legacy All-American program is designed to identify former collegiate players whose off-court contributions and on-court achievements have been deemed worthy of ITA All-American status following the completion of their collegiate careers.

  • 2026 – Trish Bostrom (University of Washington – Class of 1972)
    • One of the most decorated players in the history of the University of Washington Women’s Tennis. A pioneer for gender equality in college sports, her efforts in seeking equal funding and support for Washington women’s tennis helped usher in Title IX measures nationwide. Pac-8 Champion, National Mixed Doubles Champion, round-of-16 advancement at the Women’s National Collegiate Championships. Post-college, ranked as high as 5 in the world in doubles and 37 in the world in singles. In singles, advanced to the 2nd round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon and the 3rd round of the French Open and the US Open.   In doubles, advanced to the 3rd round of Wimbledon, the quarterfinals of the French Open and US Open and the semifinals of the Australian Open. In mixed doubles, advanced to the 3rd round of Wimbledon and a semifinalist at the Australian Open.
  • 2026 – Rich Johns (SUNY Potsdam – Class of 1972)
      • As a standout player at SUNY Potsdam, Johns split his collegiate career across the Junior College and NCAA Division III levels. As a freshman, at Adirondack Community College, Johns won the NJCAA Region 3 singles title, and was a Top 15 seed at the NJCAA National Championships in Ocala, Florida. As the only state champion to compete at SUNY Potsdam, Johns won the state title in 1972 and finished as the runner-up the year prior. During his four year collegiate career, Johns never lost a singles conference match.
