Nicholasville, KY – In a battle between the nation’s best Division III men’s tennis teams, the four semifinalists have now been determined at the 2024 ITA Division III Men’s National Team Indoor Championship.

Played at the Top Seed Tennis Club, a 12-court indoor facility just on the outskirts of Lexington, it was Case Western Reserve University and Washington University in St. Louis getting us started today in Kentucky as each earned 4-3 victories in their opening round matches.

For the two-time defending ITA Indoor Champions, Case Western Reserve, they were matched up against a very talented UChicago team who gave the Spartans all they could handle. After taking the doubles point, Case Western Reserve had to rely on the depth at the bottom of their lineup to pull out the victory today, winning on courts no. 4, no. 5, and no. 6 to clinch the win.

In the other morning match, WashU got the best of the host institution Sewanee: The University of the South, using the doubles point to ultimately decide the match. After winning from the no. 1 and no. 3 positions in doubles, the Bears would win on courts no. 2, no. 3, and no. 5 in singles to secure their spot in tomorrow’s semifinals.

Moving into the afternoon, it was Emory and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps who each came out victorious in their opening round matches.

Taking on Gustavus Adolphus, Emory was able to control the momentum of the match from very early on, taking the doubles point and using that to propel them into singles play. In singles, the Eagles added wins from the no. 1, no. 2, no. 3, no. 4, and no. 5 positions to claim the 6-1 victory over sixth-seeded Gustavus.

In the final match off-court today, CMS defeated Trinity (TX) 5-2 with a convincing finish in singles to secure the victory. The Stags lost all three doubles courts but would win on courts no. 1, no. 2, no. 3, no. 4, and no. 5 to move on to the semifinals.

Play will continue tomorrow from the Top Seed Tennis Club with both back draw matches being played at 9 am (EST) and the two semifinal matches being played at 2 pm (EST).
