Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, administers, manages, and leads all strategic aspects of the University’s NCAA Division 1 Men’s Tennis programs in such a manner as to build and maintain a competitive, quality program that reflects positively on the image and reputation of the University at all times.

  • Oversees all coaching responsibilities for the program, including planning, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices and training, and coaching at all competitions.
  • Oversees all recruiting activity for the program in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations.Schedules all practices and competitions for the men’s tennis program.
  • Oversees team travel and all administrative and financial operations of the men’s tennis program, including partnering with the Executive Director of the Bruin Club on any fundraising initiatives or stewardship needs.
  • Represents the program to various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Complies with all NCAA, Conference, University, and Department of Athletics policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program.
  • Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, as well as athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
  • Skilled in evaluating talent in order to recruit players to improve the program.
  • Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty to include identifying deficiencies and providing instruction to improve overall skill and performance.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Skilled in budget preparation and management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in organizing and coordinating.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Thrives in an environment of teamwork, collaboration, and hard work.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred.

Required Experience:

Three to five years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. The ideal candidate will have experience coaching highly competitive tennis, preferably at the NCAA Division 1 level.
