MCKINNEY, TX – It is Cowley College that claimed its program’s first NJCAA Division I Men’s National Championship this past week as the Tigers dominated across all singles and doubles positions, winning or finishing as runner-ups across all positions.

For Head Coach Manuel Raga and his sister Ari, who also serves as Assistant Coach, this Championship marked the culmination of years of hard work dating back all the way to when Raga and Ari both played for Cowley before beginning coaching.

Finishing with 52 combined points over the five days of play, Cowley topped Tyler (47 points), Eastern Florida (34 points), ABAC (31 points), and Collin (30 points) who all finished in 2nd-5th place respectively.

Featuring all Cowley and Tyler matchups on the final day of play, the Tigers won seven of the nine flights to propel them to victory over the Apaches.

In Singles, Takeshi Taco (No. 1), Boruch Skierkier (No. 2), Bruno Nhavene (No. 3), Reiya Komagata (No. 5), and Taiyo Hiranov (No. 6) all won their singles flights, gaining the maximum points for Cowley.

Moving to doubles, Bruno Nhaven and Takeshi Taco won the No. 1 doubles flight while Reiya Komagata and Boruch Skierkier took down the Tyler duo in the No. 3 doubles flight as the Tigers once again won a majority of the flights.

Cowley Head Coach Manuel Raga was named the Coach of the Tournament as the Tigers capped off an impressive season in which they went 12-1 with their only loss coming to a Division I opponent.
