The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is proud to announce the selection of the University of Nebraska, Kearney for the 2024 ITA Division II Women’s Team Sportsmanship Award.

Awarded each year following the conclusion of the ITA Division II National Women’s Team Indoor Championships, the ITA Division II Team Sportsmanship Award is presented to the team that displays exceptional sportsmanship, character, and ethical conduct during the national championship event.

“I love that our team was chosen for this honor,” noted Nebraska, Kearney Head Coach, Scott Shafer. “It’s not something we talk about much, but as a program, we strive to represent ourselves, our families, and the university with class and dignity. I felt like all the teams were respectful and decorous. It was a great weekend of tennis!”

As the hosts of the 2024 ITA Division II Women’s National Team Indoor Championships, Nebraska, Kearney put together some good results including a 4-2 win over top-five-ranked Flagler on day two of competition. The win marked one of the biggest in the program’s history and helped propel the Lopers to a sixth-place finish at the tournament.

This selection also marks the second straight year in which Nebraska, Kearney has been awarded with this honor. The Lopers are the first two-time recipients of this award since the championship began in the 2020 spring season.
