SAN DIEGO, CA – After much anticipation, play has officially begun from the ITA National Fall Championships, as players from across the country took to the courts off the Barnes Tennis Center for the opening round of play within the final national championship of the fall college tennis season.

Featuring draws of the 32 best singles players and doubles teams, today’s action saw numerous upsets across all draws, including three of the four top-seeded players and or teams falling in the first round of play.

Tyler Zink (Oklahoma State) and Reilly Tran (North Carolina) each took down the top seeds in the men’s and women’s singles draws, while Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted (TCU) dethroned the top seed in the men’s doubles draw.

Meanwhile, the Fall Championship qualifiers via the ITA Cup Super Bowl (DII, DIII, NAIA, & JUCO) have flourished during the opening round of play, as two of the four qualifiers took down Division I opponents to live to fight another day in the main draw of the National Fall Championships.

In singles, Salma Djoubri (Lynn) walked away with opening-round wins, while the Keiser pairing of Violet Apisah and Vanja Vidanovic also advanced in the women’s doubles draw.

Play continues tomorrow from the Barnes Tennis Center as the round of sixteen commences along with the first round of the singles and doubles consolation draws. Action will begin at 9 a.m. (PDT) with singles taking to the court first with doubles to follow.
