The second round of the 2023 ITA Women’s All-American Championships was played Thursday at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina. 

In the upset of the tournament, Michigan senior Kari Miller knocked off #1 seed and reigning champion Fiona Crawley of North Carolina, 7-5, 7-5. Miller was an ITA Women’s All-American doubles finalist at last year’s championships. South Carolina’s Sarah Hamner had the second upset of the day, defeating #8 seed NC State’s Amelia Rajecki 6-3, 6-3. Hamner is into the quarterfinals after advancing through qualifying. 

#2 seed Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M edged Oklahoma State junior Ange Oby Kajuru in a three-set thriller 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals. #3 seed Alexa Noel of Miami is also through to the quarters after defeating Alexandra Yepifanova of Stanford 7-6(4), 6-2. 

In doubles, both the #1 and #2 seeded North Carolina teams cruised through their quarterfinal rounds with Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty beating Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff of Ohio State and Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig prevailing over NC State’s Amelia Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo 6-2, 6-4. 

While the top two seeds booked their places in the final 8, Oklahoma State’s Anastasiya Komar and Raquel Gonzalez denied the #3 seeded Michigan’s Jaedan Brown and Kari Miller from moving on with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Selin Ovunc and DJ Bennett from Auburn rounded out the doubles upsets by taking a three-setter over #4 seeds Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina of Stanford 6-4, 5-7, 10-3.

Stoiana is the only remaining player in both the singles and doubles draw.
