Division I Men's Wilson Coach of the Year

Andres Pedroso from the University of Virginia has been named the 2023 Wilson ITA Head Coach of the Year. Pedroso, who won his first NCAA Championship as a head coach in 2022, successfully led his team back to the top of college tennis in 2023 as the Cavaliers successfully defended their title to cap off yet another dominant season. Similarly to last season, Pedroso and the Virginia team hit its stride after the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, winning their final 22 consecutive matches to finish the year 30-4 overall.


ITA Assistant Coach of the Year

Matthew Gordon | University of Kentucky

Division I Men's ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year

Matthew Gordon from the University of Kentucky has been named the 2023 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year. Now in his fifth season as the men’s assistant tennis coach at the Kentucky, Gordon has helped guide Kentucky to one of their most successful seasons to date in 2023. This year, Kentucky has gone 27-5, including a 14-1 mark at home, reached the semifinals of the ITA Indoor Championships, and won the program’s second ever SEC Tournament Title.


ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship

Ryan Fishback | Virginia Tech

Division I Men's ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership Award

Ryan Fishback from Virginia Tech has been named the 2023 ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award winner. On the court, Fishback has consistently been one of the top players in the Virginia Tech lineup. He has a career high ITA ranking of No. 32 in singles and No. 4 in doubles. He has been an NCAA Doubles qualifier for three years and was a NCAA Singles qualifier this season. Fishback has been voted to the All-ACC Second Team the past two seasons and has been a leader on our team from the moment he walked onto campus. Off the court, Fishback has been a volunteer in our Wheelchair Tennis Program, a member of our Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and is also a part of a group called Next Level Leadership.


ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award

Jonas Ziverts | University of Arizona

Division I Men's ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award

Jonas Ziverts from the University of Arizona has been named the 2023 ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award winner. Ziverts was recently recognized by the PAC 12 as the Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the year, the most prestigious award given out by the conference. He has excelled on the tennis court as a two time NCAA performer and helped Arizona to two consecutive PAC 12 regular season titles. Ziverts has been voted by his teammates the past three years to be our team captain. He has led the team in more ways than one, including multiple community service awards, highest men’s gpa on campus, and most recently giving the senior speech at the University of Arizona CATSYS award show.


ITA Rookie of the Year

Ethan Quinn | University of Georgia

Division I Men's ITA Rookie of the Year

Ethan Quinn from the University of Georgia has been named the 2023 ITA Rookie of the Year. As the 2023 SEC Freshman of the Year, Ethan Quinn finished the season as the No. 2 ranked singles player in the country and No. 3 in doubles with Trent Bryde. Quinn finished as the highest ranked freshman in the nation. Quinn finished the season with a singles record of 34-10. He led the Georgia men’s tennis team in ranked wins with 26 during the season. This success helped earn Quinn a top seed into the NCAA Singles Championship where he would go on to make even more history.


ITA Most Improved Senior

James Trotter | Ohio State University

Division I Men's Most Improved Senior Award

James Trotter from the Ohio State University has been named the 2023 ITA Most Improved Senior Award winner. Helping lead Ohio State to an NCAA Runner-Up finish, Trotter throughout the season has served as one of the emotional leaders of the Ohio State team that finished 34-3 on the year. With one of the most impressive singles records by any player from across the country, Trotter finished his senior season with a 29-1 record which was the most wins by a player this season for the Buckeyes. Trotter was the MVP of the Big Ten Tournament and had gone on a 29 match win streak to begin the year.


ITA Senior Player of the Year & National Player of the Year

Eliot Spizzirri | University of Texas

Division I Men's ITA Senior Player of the Year

Eliot Spizzirri from the University of Texas has been named the 2023 ITA Senior Player of the Year and ITA National Player of the Year. Spizzirri has put together one of the most impressive seasons in the history of Texas Tennis and among the best to this point in college tennis history. Named the 2023 Big 12 Player of the Year and a first-team All-Big 12 selection in both singles and doubles, Spizzirri was the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Singles Championship and the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship. In 2023, he has led the Longhorns to a 26-4 record, the Big 12 regular season championship, and the program’s first appearance in the final of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
