After a full season of play and the conclusion of the NCAA Division I Men’s Singles and Doubles Championships in Champaign, Ill., the final ITA National Singles and Doubles Rankings have been released today on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022.
Florida’s Ben Shelton will end the season as the ITA National Player of the Year which is given annually to the Men’s and Women’s players who end the season ranked No. 1 in the final National Singles Rankings.
Just a sophomore, Shelton built on an impressive freshman campaign and fall season in which he was crowned the 2021 ITA Men’s All-American Champion which is now greatly overshadowed by his accomplishments this spring season.
Playing primarily from the Gators No. 1 position, Shelton put together a 20-4 record this dual-match season, including wins in his last ten matches. As the No. 1 seed in the 2022 NCAA Men’s Singles Championship, Shelton showed no signs of slowing down as he cruised through the Tournament taking down San Diego’s August Holmgren in the Finals to win the National Championship.
In doubles, the Ohio State duo of Robert Cash and Matej Vocel will end the season as the No. 1 ranked pair in the country. Ranked as one of the top teams in the country throughout the season, Cash and Vocel took home many accolades in the 2021-22 season winning the 2021 ITA Men’s All-American Doubles Championship, 2021 ITA Fall National Championships and finishing runners-up in the 2022 NCAA Double’s Championship.
