UTR ITA Division I Women’s Player of the Week: Alexa Graham

Coming off of two ranked singles wins, Alexa Graham (UTR 11.75) of UNC was named the UTR ITA Division I Women’s Player of the Week. The Tar Heel senior played the #1 position in singles where she handled both of her opponents in straight sets.

On Saturday, Graham battled through to defeat Andrea Cerdan of #10 Michigan, UTR 10.94, 6-4 7-5. In addition to winning in singles, Graham and Daavettila clinched the doubles point for UNC with a 6-1 victory over Jones and Cerdan. Graham is the second Tar Heel to win the UTR ITA Player of the Week/Month award. Sara Daavettila won the award for the month of November last fall.

The next day Graham recorded a solid win against #13 Vanderbilt’s #22 Georgia Drummy, UTR 11.37 to help her team defeat the Commodores 7-0. Drummy went up 3-1 in the first set, but Graham rallied back to take the set 6-4. To complete the comeback win, Graham took the second set 6-2.

Graham and the Tar Heels are traveling to Chicago this week to compete in the 2020 Division I National Women’s Team Indoor Championship presented by Oracle. UNC is currently ranked second in the Oracle ITA Division I Women’s Team Rankings.

The UTR/ITA National Player of the Month/Week awards program honor male and female individuals from all five divisions (NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and Junior College) beginning with monthly awards in the fall (September, October, November) and moving to a weekly award during the spring dual-match season.

A player’s current Universal Tennis Rating Powered by Oracle and ITA ranking and that of his or her opponents will be part of the criteria used in the selection of the winners. Institution athletics communications directors will submit nominations to the ITA for selection.
