Men’s Doubles Main Draw | Women’s Doubles Main Draw
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – It will be another strong showing for players with college ties at the 2024 Australian Open as 60 players who spent time or are currently playing college tennis make up the men’s and women’s doubles main draws.
This number is five more than the total that competed in the 2023 Australian Open and 11 more than the total that competed in the 2022 Australian Open as more and more players are taking advantage of the developmental opportunities at the collegiate level.
In 2022 and 2023, players with college ties have excelled in men’s and women’s doubles at the Australian Open as Rinky Hijikata (North Carolina) won the men’s doubles title last year, while Ena Shibahara (UCLA) and Anna Danilina (Florida) finished as women’s doubles runners-up the past two years.
Several pairings in this year’s doubles draw will be an all-college tandem as Ben Shelton (Florida) and Christopher Eubanks (Georgia Tech), Rajeev Ram (Illinois) and Joe Salisbury (Memphis), as well as Emma Navarro (Virginia) and Diana Shnaider (NC State) will all be teaming up over the next few weeks in Melbourne.
As some of the most talented doubles players on tour, 14 former collegians are a part of top-ten seeded teams, including Austin Krajicek (Texas A&M) who is the current ATP No. 1 and Erin Routliffe (Alabama) who is the current WTA No. 9.
