TEMPE, Ariz. – Week 5 of the ITA Summer Series powered by WTN proved to be a terrific showing for the Baylor Bears, which saw five across its men’s and women’s programs punch tickets to the ITA National Summer Championships. Heading into the final week of the summer, the full field of qualifiers is nearly solidified, while the battle in the ITA Points Race Series heats up.

From the Baylor men’s program, Drew Hedgecoe (champion), Gordon Gallagher (runner-up) and Calvin Baierl (semifinalist) are through to the ITA National Summer Championships thanks to their strong efforts in Week 5, while Alian Zack (champion) and Zuzanna Kubacha (runner-up) met in an all-Bears final and will represent the Baylor women’s team.

They’ll compete on their home courts in the championships from August 8-11 in Waco, Texas, hosted by Baylor.

Baylor now joins Furman as the only women’s programs with multiple ITA National Summer Championships Qualifiers.

In the ITA Points Race Series, St. Mary’s Lucas Castillo-Sanchez and Indiana’s Hi’Ilani Williams have a comfortable lead atop the men’s and women’s standings, respectively, heading into the final week of play. Both Castillo-Sanchez and Williams were in action in Week 5, as each were ‘A’ flight champions at their respective sites to pick up a crucial 370 points.

Elsewhere in the standings, it’s shaping up to be a battle for the top-five. In the men’s race, Jack di Menna, Rafael Padilha, Cody Benton and Sergio Garin are separated by just 20 total points. Kathryn Wilson and Amiya Bowles, currently tied for fourth in the women’s race, trail Devika Manu by just 20 points for third.
