POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Tennis works alongside the Head Tennis Coach to build and sustain a competitive, first-class Men’s and Women’s Tennis program at Oral Roberts University. This individual plays a central role in recruiting, coaching, and developing student-athletes, while helping ensure the program operates with excellence on and off the court.

MISSION OF THE POSITION
To help build a championship-caliber tennis program by developing student-athletes into competitive players, engaged students, and individuals of strong character — while upholding the highest standards of NCAA compliance, professionalism, and servant leadership.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
NCAA Compliance & Rules
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of, and full adherence to, all applicable NCAA, Conference, University, and departmental rules and regulations.
- Immediately report any known or suspected NCAA violation to the Assistant Athletic Director or Director of Athletics and follow all applicable reporting and investigation procedures.
Recruiting & Scouting
- Direct and assist in the scouting and recruitment of quality student-athletes, including hosting on-campus visits for prospective student-athletes.
- Oversee all recruiting contact with prospective student-athletes to ensure strict adherence to NCAA rules.
Public & Community Relations
- Represent the program in public relations activities, including approved interviews with newspaper, radio, and television media, press conferences, and public appearances.
- Attend required departmental social functions and speak to civic groups as requested.
- Support athletic department fundraising by engaging donors through department-sponsored promotional activities that supplement the program’s budget.
Coaching & Player Development
- Direct and assist with coaching duties, including evaluating student-athlete performance in both practice and competition.
- Provide focused leadership and instruction to student-athletes in areas needing improvement.
Academic Support
- Take an active interest in the academic progress, eligibility, and personal well-being of every student-athlete.
- Partner closely with the Director for Academic Services and other University administrators to proactively resolve issues and prevent academic eligibility problems.
- Assist with enforcement of the mandatory study program and monitor compliance.
Public & Community Relations
- Represent the program in public relations activities, including approved interviews with newspaper, radio, and television media, press conferences, and public appearances.
- Attend required departmental social functions and speak to civic groups as requested.
- Support athletic department fundraising by engaging donors through department-sponsored promotional activities that supplement the program’s budget.
Program Promotion
- Promote the philosophy and objectives of ORU’s intercollegiate athletics program at every opportunity.
- Adhere to all Departmental, University, Conference, and NCAA policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Tennis Coach or Athletics Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
- Two to four years of related coaching or collegiate tennis experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher preferred.
- Strong skill in organizing resources, managing time, and establishing priorities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment on administrative and procedural matters.
- Ability to analyze facts and situations to determine appropriate action within standard practice.
- Working knowledge of NCAA rules and Division I athletics preferred.
