TEMPE, Ariz. – More than halfway through the ITA Summer Points Race Series powered by WTN, several newcomers have entered the mix on the leaderboard, while the field of qualifiers for the ITA National Summer Championships has rounded into further shape.

Mary Washington’s John Riordan is now the top men’s points-scorer after winning his second consecutive ‘A’ Flight Championship in Week 4 at his home court, as St. Mary’s Lucas Castillo-Sanchez and Hampton’s Rafael Padilha round out the top three. Nicholas Ballou, whose Week 4 semifinalist finish at UC Davis marked his third consecutive weekend of a top-four finish or better, has jettisoned up the men’s leaderboard and joins the top-six for the first time this summer.

On the women’s leaderboard, Indiana’s Hi’Ilani Williams, Michigan State’s Amiya Bowles and Purdue’s Kathryn Wilson have maintained their top-three status, respectively, but Missouri State Western’s Ella Gates, Omaha’s Corinne Barber and Kiana Huerta have joined the top-six for the first time. Through three tournaments she’s played in thus far, Gates has been a semifinalist twice (Week 1/Washburn and Week 4/Southwest Baptist) and a finalist once (Week 2/Wichita State).

Additionally, the field of the ITA National Summer Championships received eight new qualifiers in Week 4. It’s been a terrific showing for programs like Furman, Illinois, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, SMU and Virginia, as these programs now have both men’s and women’s qualifiers. Furman is the only women’s program with two ITA National Summer Championships Qualifiers through the first four weeks of play, courtesy of Elle Warren’s semifinal finish at Notre Dame in Week Four.

The full field of participants will meet in the championships from August 8-11 in Waco, Texas, hosted by Baylor University.
