VENTURA, Calif. – History was made at the 124th annual Ojai Tennis Tournament, the home of the CCCAA State Championships, which saw the LA Mission College Women capture its first team state title in team history and the Irvine Valley College Men complete its quest for back-to-back crowns.

The No. 1 LA Mission Eagles, seeking an undefeated season entering the April 22 team final, erased a 4-3 deficit in the final against Sierra College, the No. 1 seed from California’s northern region. They picked up a massive win from Genesis Nochez on court six to even the score before Josilyn Rivera clinched the match on court three, completing a perfect 25-0 campaign.

In the men’s final, top-seeded Irvine Valley made quick work of Foothill College, grabbing all three doubles points to jump out to a resounding 3-0 edge. Steven Anderson and Bradley Yung delivered the final two points needed to cap off the 5-0 win and a second consecutive state championship for the Lasers.

Both the Eagles and Lasers were well-represented throughout the week in individual play, as Irvine Valley’s Philip Neuman took the men’s singles crown in an all-Irvine Valley final, while Yung and Nevin McCann tacked on with the doubles title.

Jaelyn Rivera and Priscilla Grinner brought home another crown for the Eagles after winning the women’s doubles championship, prevailing in a three-set tiebreaker (6-7, 6-1, 7-6 (13-11)) in which they dropped the opening set.

Chabot’s Mina Koloski outlasted College of the Canyons’ Emma Chodur in the women’s singles final to win her second consecutive state singles title.
