With 28 men’s and women’s singles qualifiers as well as 15 men’s and women’s doubles qualifiers determined this past weekend, these two championships rounded out the NCAA Individual Championship fields with a full list of all qualifying players from throughout the fall season being found on the NCAA Individual Championship page on the ITA website.
At the ITA Conference Masters Championships, defending NCAA Singles Champion, Michael Zheng (Columbia), earned his spot back into the field of players by reaching the semifinals of the men’s singles draw. Alongside Zheng in earning qualification in San Diego was Jeremy Jin (Florida), Martin Brisiouk (NC State), and Edward Winter (Pepperdine) who all are highly ranked players in the country.
The women’s qualifiers at the Conference Masters Championships were Aysegul Mert (Georgia), Eugenia Zozaya Menendez (USC), Mao Mushika (California), and Ni Xi (Charlotte). Playing out the championship, Mert was crowned the national champion at the tournament after a thrilling three set match against Zozaya Menendez who has continued to shine in her first fall in college tennis.
Across the ITA Sectional Championships, North Carolina excelled on the men’s side of play, qualifying three singles players and one doubles teams from their Sectional Championship. For the women, NC State made the most of the weekend by qualifying three singles players as well as one doubles team at the East Sectional Championship.
