Head Women’s and Men’s Tennis Coach (Part-Time) St. Joseph’s University, New York – Long Island
Position Summary: The Head Coach serves as the program leader for both women’s and men’s tennis. As Head Coach, this individual is responsible for operating a program for student-athletes, with differing abilities and skills, and serving as a role model in meeting our complimentary goals in Athletics.
Education Required: BS/BA in related field required, Master’s Degree preferred
Experience Required: Previous coaching experience, at the college or high school level, playing experience required.
Skills, Characteristics Required for Position:
- Ability to administer NCAA Division III intercollegiate program(s), including recruiting, scheduling, budgeting, travel, and practice plans;
- Ability to coach, teach, and train student-athletes in skills and strategies specific to their sport to make them as competitive as possible;
- Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of holistic education;
- Ability to be a team player within the Athletics Department and the University;
- Good judgment and problem solving skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and
- Demonstrated commitment to continued learning/professional development (i.e., presentations, publications, serving on regional and/or national committees)
Special Working Conditions: Required to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Primary Duties:
- Analyze performance and instruct athletes in skills, techniques and strategies in preparation for competition and during contests.
- Maintain yearly roster goals through recruiting and retention efforts.
- Coordinate general administrative duties to include budgeting, game and practice scheduling, travel plans.
- Communicate with Sport Administrator, Athletic Trainer, Manager of Athletic Communication, Facilities Manager and department administrators as needed.
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate recruiting and scouting activities.
- Supervise part-time assistant coaches who are part of the program.
- Serve on appropriate departmental and campus committees, and be a presence in University activities and governance.
- Monitor Student Athlete academic and athletic progress throughout the entire academic year.
- Adhere to and follow all rules and guidelines of St. Joseph’s University, New York – Long Island, Skyline Conference, the ITA, and the NCAA.
- Monitor and ensure maintenance and respect of facilities and equipment.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
