Waco, Texas – After a record setting season in which they were crowned ITA National Team Indoor Champions, went unbeaten in regular season play, and earned the most wins by a program in a single season (40), the Wake Forest Demon Deacons capped off their historic season Sunday night with a NCAA Division I Men’s National Championship after beating TCU in the final.

Knowing this could be a special season very early on, the goal for the Wake Forest team was always to be the ones lifting the trophy at the end of the season. In what ended up being a rematch of the ITA National Team Indoor final, Wake Forest and TCU treated fans to a back-and-forth affair worthy of National Championship match.

From the first serve on Sunday, Wake Forest came out with an unmatched energy and focus to capture what they had been working so hard for all season. Going up 3-0 on all three doubles courts, the duo of Dostanic/Robertson earned a 6-2 win at the No. 2 doubles position before Pow/Tacchi closed out the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the No. 3 doubles position.

The Deacs, who were dominate all season in doubles winning the point 38 times this season, now had the momentum on their side which helped tame the very Frog-friendly crowd in Waco being just 90 minutes from the campus.

First off the court in singles was Stefan Dostanic at the No. 1 singles position. The transfer from USC caped off his phenomenal return to college tennis with an impressive 6-3, 6-1 over Jack Pinnington, the nation’s No. 8 ranked singles player.

After Lui Maxted was able to win in straights over Ioannis Xilas on court No. 3 to make the match score 2-1 in favor of Wake Forest, all four of the remaining singles matches came down to a deciding third set which would determine the national champion.

With TCU’s Alberto Pedrico winning on court No. 5 just seconds before Wake Forest’s Luca Pow won himself on court No. 6, the Demon Deacons now sat one point away from the title with both courts No. 2 and No. 4 tied up at 2-2 in the third set.

Earning breaks to go ahead 5-3 on both courts No. 2 and No. 4, it was ultimately DK Suresh Ekambaram who clinched the match for Wake Forest at the No. 2 singles position. The transfer from Georgia Gwinnett, an NAIA powerhouse, showcased the skill at all levels of college tennis as he now ranks in the top ten of singles players at the Division I level and clinched the National Championship for the Deacs.

Wake Forest in just the seventh program to win both the Indoor and Outdoor National Championships in the same season, and when looking back at the year, the Demon Deacons earned 25 ranked wins in 40 matches including 11 top ten wins and seven top five wins. The 2025 NCAA Championship is the second in program history for Wake Forest and the first since 2023 for the Wake Forest athletics department.
