Waco, Texas – Marking 25 years since their last National Championship in 2000, the University of Georgia is back on top of women’s college tennis as the Bulldogs swept Texas A&M to win the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship.
As a rematch of the 2025 ITA National Team Indoor Championship final as well as the 2025 SEC Tournament final, both of these teams came into Sunday’s final very familiar with one another. Holding steady as the top two teams in the country since February, both the Bulldogs and Aggies rolled through opponents this NCAA Tournament en route to a 2024 NCAA Championship rematch.
Beginning with doubles, it was Georgia who asserted themselves early with a decisive 6-2 win from Guillermina Grant and partner Anastasiia Lopata from the No. 2 doubles position. With a back-and-forth battle on court No. 1, the Bulldogs picked up the clinching win on doubles court No. 3 as Aysegul Mert and Hayden Mulberry won 7-5 over Khirin and Perez of Texas A&M.
Now with the momentum, the momentum was swinging in the favor of the Aggies early on in singles play until Dasha Vidmanova came back from 0-3 down to claim her first set while Aysegul Mert won a first set tiebreaker to give the Bulldogs four first sets.
With Vidmanova being the only player to win in straight sets on court No. 1, all but one of the remaining matches went three sets except for one at the time of the clinch. Lopata was the next Georgia player to win coming back from a 0-6 first set loss to win 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Nicole Khirin moving the Bulldogs ahead 3-0 in the match scoring.
In her first season with the Bulldogs, hometown hero Sofia Rojas delivered the national championship clinch for Georgia on Sunday when she defeated Lexington Reed 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 from the No. 6 singles position.
Marking the third NCAA National Championship in program history, Georgia now is in sole possession of having the fourth most Division I titles across all programs.
