Tyler, TX – The 2025 NJCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship begins today, May 3rd, and will run through May 7th when a national champion will be crowned. Played at the Joann Medlock Murphy Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas, players will compete in flighted draws with teams earning points towards a team total based on their players finish in each flighted draw.
Cowley College is the defending national champion having beaten out Hillsborough (44 points), Tyler (39 points), St. Petersburg (32 points), and Eastern Florida State (30 points) who finished in 2nd-5th place respectively.
Hillsborough enters the championship as the No. 1 ranked team in the April 17th ITA NJCAA Team Rankings followed closely by Cowley, St. Petersburg, Tyler, and Eastern Florida State. Hillsborough took home the team championship in 2023 and have continually been in the mix for the championship under the leadership of head coach Sarah Lytle.
Tyler currently has the No. 1 ranked singles player in the country as Yee Ching ‘Candy’ Wai has continued to impress during the spring after winning the 2024 ITA Cup JUCO Singles Title in Rome, Georgia this past fall. Meanwhile, the Hillsborough duo of Catherine Goldman and Sidney Stark sit atop the ITA Doubles Rankings after an impressive fall and spring seasons as well.
