Lake Nona, FL – Alabama has once again climbed to the pinnacle of collegiate wheelchair tennis after taking down Auburn in the 2025 ITA National Wheelchair Tennis Championship to claim their seventh title in the past eight tournaments.
In a match that drew much interest both in person and online, the championship match featured two in-state rivals whom’s fan bases rallied behind them before, during, and after the finals. Under perfect conditions at the USTA National Campus the two teams delivered an exciting showcase of collegiate wheelchair tennis, trading blows and getting the crowd cheering loudly throughout the match.
Beginning with doubles, Francesco Felici and Martha Harris (Alabama) took on Jake Eastwood and Evan Heller (Auburn) to determine who would head into singles play with a one point advantage. With the first three games all going to deuce deciding points, Alabama was able to win all three games to take the 3-0 lead where they never looked back winning 8-1 in the pro set.
After a brief break in between doubles and singles, we would see Felici take on Gabe Puthoff (Auburn) at the No. 1 position while Harris faced Heller at the No. 2 position.
With the Tide winning first sets on both courts, it was Felici who ultimately clinched the match for Alabama winning 6-0, 6-0 over Puthoff. The former US Open Junior Champion capped off his impressive freshman season with another National Championship after winning the ITA National Wheelchair Tennis Singles Championship this past fall in Waco.
This is the first title for head coach Tyler Mckay who took over from Evan Enquist who led the Crimson Tide to seven championships as the head coach.
