Tempe, AZ – Working in collaboration with the ITA Student-Athlete Council, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (“ITA”) is proud to spotlight another student-athlete in our monthly heritage month spotlights that aim to highlight the many diverse backgrounds that make up the sport of college tennis.

With February being Black History Month, the ITA is continuing to spotlight several black student-athletes, allowing them to have a platform to share their stories and experiences as a black student-athlete playing college tennis. This week’s spotlight features Evan Fisher from the University of Mary Washington.

As a sophomore on the Mary Washington men’s tennis team, Evan has served as an integral part of the Eagles team since stepping foot on campus just over a year ago. During his freshman campaign, Evan earned a 11-11 record at the No. 6 singles position, a 12-13 mark in doubles play, and earned Coast-To-Coast All-Academic Team Honors.

To begin his 2024-25 campaign, Evan alongside teammate Brock Ladehoff won the Division III Men’s ITA Southeast Region Doubles title to qualify to play in the ITA Cup later in the fall. Moving up the lineup this spring, Evan now plays primarily No. 3 singles for the Eagles who currently rank No. 26 in the ITA Team Rankings.

In this spotlight, Evan will share a little bit about himself and some of his experiences growing up as a black athlete in the tennis community and how he hopes to make an impact on future generations.
