Dallas & Waco, TX – The opening round of play is now complete at the 2025 ITA Division I Men’s National Team Indoor Championships as the eight quarterfinalists split between the host sites of SMU and Baylor are now set.
On a day in which upsets reigned supreme, especially in Waco, we saw the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 seeds all bounced at Baylor as Ohio State (2), Columbia (3), and Duke (4) all fell on the opening day.
In one one of the biggest upsets in ITA National Team Indoor history, UCF took down Ohio State in the first match of the day in Waco. Continuing their dominance that saw them beat Arizona during Kickoff Weekend, the Knights didn’t back down from the reigning Indoor Champions, wining 4-2 to claim their spot in the quarterfinals. In the closest match of the day, San Diego took down Duke in a nearly four hour thriller that came down to a decisive third set on court No. 5 singles. San Diego will now have a meeting with top seeded TCU in the quarterfinals.
In Dallas, NC was the lone lower seeded team to win on the day. Wake Forest, Virginia, and Texas each handled business against tough tests on the day to claim their spot in the quarterfinals. Three of the four quarterfinalists in Dallas come from the ACC with Texas being the lone non-ACC program still competing at that site.
Play will continue tomorrow from SMU and Baylor. Semifinal matches at both site will be played at 12pm (CT) and 3:30pm (CT) with the two consolation matches at each site being played at 9am (CT) and 6:30pm (CT).
