Evanston & Champaign, IL – The opening round of play is now complete at the 2025 ITA Division I Women’s National Team Indoor Championships as the eight quarterfinalists split between the host sites of Northwestern and Illinois are now set.
At the Northwestern site, Georgia (1), North Carolina (2), Virginia (3), and Auburn (5) all advanced to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, at Illinois, Texas A&M (1), Michigan (2), Texas (5), and Oklahoma (6) all earned opening round victories.
With three lower seeded teams taking down seeded teams above them, Auburn, Texas, and Oklahoma all got their Team Indoor Championship off to a good start on Friday. Auburn earned a 4-1 win over Stanford (4), Oklahoma won 4-2 over UCLA (3), and Texas won 4-0 over Oklahoma State (4). The 4-0 victory by Texas means that there will not be a repeat champion in 2025 as Oklahoma State is now out of contention for the title.
Throughout the remaining matches, the higher seeds kept their hopes of bring home hardware as North Carolina and Virginia earned hard-fought wins over Pepperdine and Tennessee, while Georgia, Texas A&M, and Michigan each cruised to dominant wins on the opening day of play in Illinois.
Play will continue tomorrow from Northwestern and Illinois. Semifinal matches at both site will be played at 12pm (CT) and 3:30pm (CT) with the two consolation matches at each site being played at 9am (CT) and 6:30pm (CT).
