The Graduate Assistant Coach reports directly to the Head Tennis Coach, and is responsible for working, as directed, towards the planning and execution of a successful Tennis program. The program operates within the mission, philosophy, and objectives of the Head Coach, Athletic Department, and University. They are expected to conduct himself/herself in a professional manner, being a positive role model for his/her players.

The applicant must make a strong commitment to and have a responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of Eastern Michigan University, the Mid-American Conference and the NCAA.

Qualifications

  • Must obtain acceptance in a Eastern Michigan University graduate program
  • Playing experience at the collegiate level is required
  • Ability to work an untraditional work schedule (i.e., nights and weekends)
  • Willing to travel with team, by vehicle or plane
  • A valid driver’s license strongly preferred
  • Committed to and an articulate supporter of the university, athletic department, and tennis program’s mission, identity, and standards.

Responsibilities

  • The assistantship is a part-time position responsible for assisting with all phases of an NCAA Division I tennis program including recruiting, retention, player training and development and other duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Tennis Coach
  • Assists the head coach with the daily operations of the women’s tennis program at Eastern Michigan
  • Analyze performance and instruct athletes in tennis techniques and strategies in preparation for and during athletics competition
  • Assist with all phases of competitive NCAA and MAC compliant recruiting
  • Execute match and practice planning/evaluation, including video breakdown
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, staff, and the campus community
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Head Women’s Tennis Coach
